TRAINER Richard Farnan claims he will do everything he can to get Kelly Morgan ready for a world title shot - and hopes the big day could arrive before the end of this year.

Morgan claimed the vacant WBC Silver female middleweight title after beating Lisa Cielas courtesy of a unanimous points decision at Grange Leisure Centre last Friday night.

The victory ensured that Morgan, 35, is the mandatory challenger for the world crown currently held by American Kali Reis, who is scheduled to fight an as-yet unnamed opponent in Rhode Island next month after defeating Maricela Cornejo in New Zealand.

Reis could be forced into a rematch with Cornejo, with Morgan facing the winner, with Farnan now exploring all avenues to get his fighter’s dream ring date lined up.

“She could be fighting for a world title before Christmas - if not, she will have fought before this time next year,” he told the Advertiser.

“It’s going to be work and work and work. If we have to travel for sparring, we will go to where the very best sparring is to get Kelly into the best condition.

“She’s in great condition now and nobody will try harder - she’s relentless.”

Farnan, who also acts as Morgan’s manager, believes last week’s victory was just reward for her perseverance, having seen her previous WBC Silver title fight date shelved earlier this year due to visa issues for her scheduled opponent.

He added: “To see Kelly triumph after all the hard work and all the ups and downs with shows being cancelled and opponents pulling out, it’s been difficult mentally as well as strenuous physically.

“To now have a boxer that I’ve had from day one of her professional career to the point where that belt is hers, it’s just incredible.

“She has that WBC belt now, she’s now a champion. Nobody can take that away from her, she’s done it.

“The next big one is obviously the world title, you don’t get any bigger than that.

“From my personal point of view, the WBC, if you are going to have any belt, that is the one. All the other ones are important but the WBC belt is the pinnacle.’’ Farnan said that Morgan had received offers from abroad to spar with world champions, something he is more than keen to follow up.

“We’ve had offers to go abroad for sparring with world champions,’’ he added.

“It’s very exciting, we just need to keep our feet on the floor.

“You have to be in with more experienced and better fighters yourself, it’s the only way you learn.”
