RICHARD Farnan says that it has taken a lot of hard work to secure Kelly Morgan’s dream of a world title fight.

The World Boxing Council (WBC) sent out an order on Wednesday mandating that their super-middleweight champion, Nikki Adler, must defend her title against Swindon’s Morgan.

The deadline for free negotiations has been set for February 17 and if no agreement for the fight has been put in place by then, it will go to open purse bids.

“This has taken a lot of work and travel to get this done,” said Farnan, who says the fight must take place three months after the order was issued.

“The sole reason I went out to the WBC convention in Miami was to have a face-to-face with the WBC female chairman Malte Muller.

“He assured me that they would be sending out the order, which they have done.

“I’m not surprised we haven’t heard from Nikki’s camp. When we were in talks about having the fight in November, they tried to tell me that female boxing and Nikki wasn’t that popular in Germany.

“Nikki is a very popular fighter and I went back through the shows in Germany and at least 70 per cent of them had at least one female bout on it.

“My gut feeling is that this will go to purse bids and then who knows where it could take place.”

Farnan says that he has made tentative approaches to a number of UK promoters about the possibility of the fight happening here but no talks have been held as of yet.

Female boxing in the UK has started to bloom following Matchroom’s signing of Irish Olypic gold medallist Katie Taylor, while Frank Warren secured the capture of double Olympic champion Nicola Adam this week.

After so many false dawns in trying to secure a date against the unbeaten Adler, WBC silver middleweight champion Morgan has remained in camp.

She added: “We can just go get experience and see where it takes us. Every week that has gone by without a fight date, I have got stronger.

“I’ve got better, I’m learning very quickly and I think it only goes in my favour, so let’s see what happens.

“It’s a different level of boxing, the odds are massively stacked against me, but I like that. If I can cause an upset that makes it sweeter.”
