MICHAEL McKinson says that ‘superstar’ Ryan Martin will see his unbeaten record come crashing down when the duo go head-to-head on Saturday night.

Portmouth’s McKinson and Swindon’s Martin collide at the Oasis Leisure Centre for the vacant WBC Youth world welterweight title.

And the 22-year-old, from the south coast, is in little doubt who will be the one leaving with the famous green belt that has previously been held by Saul Alvarez, Timothy Bradley and Danny Garcia once the evening is out.

“As an amateur, he (Martin) was better than me, he was the superstar amateur,” McKinson told the Advertiser.

“But this is seven or eight years down the line now. We know exactly who he is and I know that I can beat him.

“This is a completely different ball game, he was the better amateur, but I will be the better pro, and I will beat him on April 8.”

With Martin boasting two stoppage wins from his unblemished seven fight record, Belfast-born McKinson insists that you can’t read too much into the fact that he has gone the distance in nine of his 10 fights.

“I have had 10 fights as a pro and I will fight better when there is better opposition in front of me,” said McKinson, who made his debut in October 2014.

“The guys that I have fought are real tough, I have had to work against negative fighters.

“I have only stopped one out of my 10 opponents. Don’t let that fool you, I hope Ryan doesn’t let that fool him, because he will be in trouble.

“If they are going on what I have done in my past 10 fights, I will be a completely different fighter on April 8 with Ryan – a live threat - in front of me.

“You’ve got two unbeaten lads in the middle of the ring, stepping up to the plate and doing it – but I am all kinds of trouble for Ryan Martin.”
