Penhill Amateur Boxing club travelled to London where Kelvin Young moved up to light-heavyweight for his first bout of the season.
He took on the experienced Mark McKiernan from Haringey ABC - a previous Haringey Cup Champion and junior ABA champion.
And McKiernan found the going tough early on with Young hitting and boxing well behind a tight guard.
He caught McKiernan with several three-punch combinations to build up a good points lead.
In the third round, Young was totally relaxed and composed, landing the cleaner punches and was eventually awarded a unanimous points victory.
Penhill coach Simon Knowles said: “This was a very good win for Kelvin. He’s realizing that he needs to box and not fight. When he boxes I believe he can beat anybody on his day.”
Penhill also travelled to Exeter with two of their newest recruits Jake Knowles and Carl Hammick.
Both boys gave good accounts of themselves in two very competitive bouts.
Penhill are running a boxing show on Friday at the Penhill British Legion.
Doors open at 7pm and there are only a few tickets left priced at £8 prior to the night or £10 on the night.
