THREE Walcot boxers meet the champions of London in the semi-finals of the Junior ABA Championships in Surrey on Sunday, writes DAVE VEYSEY.

Fifteen-year-old John Luke Bolton, Connor Wells (17) and Ryan Martin (18) must all overcome tough opposition if they are to make it through to the final.

The relatively inexperienced Bolton faces Jack Brooker from Northolt ABC in the class four (54kg) category.

The Commonweal pupil boxed well to defeat Home Counties champion Bradley Fagan in the quarter-final, but knows he must raise his game again this Sunday.

He said: “I am excited and really looking forward to my first national semi-final. I’ve trained hard and will do my best for the club.”

In class six Connor Wells and Ryan Martin both meet old foes from West Ham ABC - England junior internationals Tom Beaney and Luke Saunders respectively.

Beaney beat Wells at the semi-final stage of this tournament last year, whilst Martin lost to Saunders in this season’s CYP Championship.

Due to injury this 63kg clash will be Wells’s first contest of the season.

He said: “I’ve had a few problems with injury this season but recently I’ve felt much better in the gym and am raring to go.”

Martin beat two boxers in one day during the early stages of the competition at 66kg and he added: “I am looking forward to boxing Luke again, and hopefully this time the result will be different.”

Walcot chief coach Harry Scott said: “All three lads have been pitched against quality opponents, but I know they will all give me 100 per cent on the day.”

The boxing starts at 1pm on Sunday at the Edge Leisure Centre, Haslemere, Surrey.
