Walcot boxer Said Eltuyev beat all before him to win gold at the Schoolboy Three Nations tournament in South Wales, writes Dave Veysey.

The event involved the cream of the schoolboy boxing talent from England, Wales and Scotland, and was hosted by Wales at the Unversity of Glamorgan near Cardiff.

Eltuyev faced 13-year-old Scottish champion Laughton Mackenzie in the final, and from the outset started to score with fast left jabs and straight rights.

Using impeccable footwork, the Churchfields pupil moved into range, landed with fast two-punch combinations, then deftly moved out of his opponent's reach.

But all his hard work only saw him one point up after the opening round, but he picked up the pace in the second to increase his lead to three.

The final round saw the Walcot youngster continue to dominate, scoring with straight shots and moving stylishly as he had done throughout the bout, and he was rewarded with a 15-10 points decision by the ringside judges.

“I am delighted to have won the gold medal, Eltuyev said.

“I would like to thank Harry Scott and all the Walcot coaches for their hard work throughout the season, and also my dad Islan who has supported me all the way.”

Walcot chief coach Scott added: “Well done Said, a tremendous effort. He is a very skilful boxer who has a big future in the sport if he keeps training hard.

Eltuyev’s gold caps an impressive season for Walcot, following Patrick McDonagh’s success for England last month.
