SKIPPER Paul Godding has demanded an improvement from Lechlade’s batsmen as they go in search of their first win of the campaign tomorrow.

The Manor Ground side visit Stroud in the Glos/Wilts Division looking to bounce back from a double defeat to Potterne in the league and National Village Knockout Cup.

Godding wants heavier scoring with the bat this time round but his side are likely to be without Wiltshire captain Joe Breet who has suffered a knee injury scare.

“I was very pleased with the bowling and fielding in last week’s game against Potterne. The batting, though, has to improve,” said Godding.

“Our top six batsmen contributed just 22 runs last Saturday and that was clearly not good enough at this level.

“However, I am sure this was just a blip and it is highly unlikely that the batting unit will perform as badly as a whole again this season.

“Having spoken to them all this week at training I know they will be all out on Saturday to put things right.”

Breet suffered a training ground injury while with the Wiltshire squad last week and is currently awaiting the results of a precautionary scan before finding out when he can return.

It is hoped that the injury is nothing more than a minor sprain and bruising and that Breet will be back in time to face former club Westbury a week on Saturday.

Tomorrow’s game will see all-rounder Tristan Hawkes replace Kam Shah in the Lechlade line-up.

Lechlade coach Luke Sellers said. ahead of this weekend’s fixture: “Last Saturday’s result was disappointing, especially after the start we had.

“We have to learn that we must capitalise on such opportunities and especially against the better sides in the division such as Potterne.

“We have some very talented batsmen in the team and I am confident that we are unlikely to bat as badly again as a unit this season.”
