GIORGIO Rigali is hoping that one debut will be followed swiftly by another as he aims to make an impact for club and county this season.

The former Swindon paceman made his first appearance for Goatacre in Premier Two last weekend - his first WEPL cricket in 14 months after a year away in Australia - and played an important role in the three-wicket win.

Rigali clean-bowled opener Craig Collinson and condemned lower-order batsmen Tom Morris and Jon Brown to the same fate as he finished with figures of 3-53 in just over nine overs.

Selected for the Wiltshire squad to face Gloucester 2nds and Dorset in pre-season contests, Rigali was forced to withdraw due to a side strain, but with his physical condition back to optimum levels, he is determined to prove himself.

And the opening bowler is hoping that he will be able to catch the eye and propel himself back into the county selectors thoughts.

“I’m fully fit and raring to go,” he said.

“I just want to get out there and show what I can do and hopefully I get my place back in that Wiltshire squad and get the chance to have my debut again.

“The only way I’m going to get back in that squad is by taking wickets. It’s good to be doing that.

“It was really good to get out there and play league cricket. I’d like to have taken a couple more early wickets on Saturday but wickets are wickets and I’ve just got to keep running in.

“That’s what I have to do. I felt good on Saturday, I felt like I was going to take wickets but I’ve just got to keep plugging away.”
