RONNIE Fernandes clubbed 93 off 64 balls as Swindon Civil Service heaped more early-season disappointment on Division One new boys Wootton Bassett in the Surridge Sport Wiltshire County League on Saturday.

Fernandes’ powerful knock included eight sixes as his side amassed 175 all out, Andy Mildenhall adding 34.

Bassett, defeated on the opening day of the season by Malmesbury, came off second best in another derby tussle as they limped to 85-4, Sam Lawro scoring an unbeaten 41.

The win moved Service level on points with early-season pacesetters Urchfont, who were five-wicket winners over Beanacre & Melksham, Morlon Simons scoring an unbeaten 61 and Joe Dorgan claiming 6-11 in just 12 overs and adding an unbeaten 34 with the bat Malmesbury’s trip to Hinton Charterhouse was cancelled.

Wroughton Wranglers slipped to an eight-wicket defeat to Box in Division Two, Mike Evans scoring 57 as they reached 131-9, a second wicket partnership of 85 between Jake Pettit (28) and Rich Foley (76 not out) bringing Box home.

Swindon A were four-wicket victors over Keevil, T Codling taking 3-2 in just two overs as Keevil were all out for 127.

Parag Porobo’s 49 guided Swindon to their target.

Swindon United Churches found Bear Flat too hot to handle as they were hammered by 212 runs in Division Three.

Rob Wilson and Mark Gunning shared an opening stand of 221 as Flat amassed 254-2, Chris Spackman taking 2-74.

Churches then collapsed to 42 all out as Lewis Baxter (4-14) and Paul Wood (3-19) rattled through the batting order Scott Walduck took 4-16 in seven overs as Wootton Bassett 2nd were four-wicket winners over their Malmesbury counterparts in Division Four.

Blunsdon were 50-run winners over Wootton Bassett 3rd in Division Five, A Ramasamy scoring an unbeaten 100 and J Mundy (65) and D Bott (58) helping them to 249-4, Bassett falling short of a rain-reduced target of 172 from 31 overs with 121-4.
