BRILLIANT Brad Dial racked up his fifth ton of the season for Lechlade and took his league total past 1,000 runs as he inspired the visitors to a 10-run victory over Shapwick & Polden.

Skipper Joe Breet won the toss and elected to bat, but the innings got off to a poor start, and after 15 overs Lechlade were 45-3.

Ryan Higgins joined Dial at the crease and the pair set about repairing the damage with a partnership of 87 before the former was caught and bowled by Shapwick skipper Wayne Spencer for 33.

From there Dial raced to three figures off 96 balls before finally falling for 104 when he found a fielder.

That left the tail to claim maximum batting points and post 234-8.

Although, Lechlade were confident that they had enough runs on the board, their limited bowling resources might present a problem.

Skipper Breet had the dangerous Steve Tinnion caught by Higgins in his third over but Luke Sellers had no luck at the other end.

At 66-1 Shapwick were going well but Nayan Karmakar (25) came down the track to Benny Ellis and was easily stumped by Sam Burdock.

Mohan Balusu then trapped Steve Coppell lbw before the introduction of Higgins’ leg-spin changed the game as in his first two overs he picked up three wickets.

A further wicket for Breet (2-28) and another for Higgins (4-26) left Shapwick in a seemingly hopeless situation at 111-8 but captain Spencer then launched a counter attack as he raced to a half-century When Dial had Archie Dunning (37) stumped the game looked won and with 20 required off the last two overs, Spencer (71) was bowled by Balusu.

Dial was also the hero as Lechlade won the Cotswold & District T20 Cup with a 121-run win over Cirencester.

The South African smashed an unbeaten 165 off 69 balls to help Lechalde post 256-1, with captain Ali Killham chipping in with 50.

Leg spinner David Novias then ripped Cirencester apart in reply, taking 4-9 as they were skittled out for just 135.
