APPLICATION will be the buzzword for Lechlade when they travel to title-chasers Taunton tomorrow.

Joe Breet’s side make the trip to Gipsy Lane looking to bounce back from their disappointing seven-wicket defeat at the hands of struggling Chard last weekend.

And that defeat has left the Manor Ground side just 19 points afloat of the bottom two.

Captain Breet thought that his team let themselves down with the bat against Chard but despite a tough trip to a Taunton side desperate for a victory to keep their chances of catching Potterne at the top of the Premier Two table alive, the Lechlade skipper says that his troops are up for the challenge.

“We’ve hopefully learned a lot of lessons since the Chard game and the guys are excited to go to Taunton – you always want to play against the best sides to see where you are as a player,” said Breet.

“We bowled and fielded the best we have done all season but people didn’t apply themselves with the bat and deal with the situation properly.

“Rather than being patient and scoring ones and twos, there were too many people going for big hits and getting out, which then put pressure on everyone else.

“We should have got to the target comfortably but that didn’t happen and we lost the game.

“We go into every game trying to win and all it takes is one player to do something special and win you a match, so we’ve got every chance against Taunton.”

Lechlade will be boosted by the return of bowler Luke Sellers, who is also a club coach, when they make the journey to Somerset.

Breet added: “It’s a quick wicket, so Luke’s bowling will be important. We need him in the side and it’s a big plus that he’ll be back in the squad.”
