BATSMAN Jon Sore has urged Swindon to seize on their momentum this weekend as they bid to start challenging at the right end of the table.

Andrew Staff’s side claimed just a second victory of the WEPL Wiltshire season last Saturday with a landslide 119-run success at home to lowly Malmesbury, ending a four-week winless spell in the process.

Swindon are still mathematically closer to the bottom of the table than the top – they are 28 points clear of basement side Calne and 29 adrift of leaders Trowbridge – but a strong showing against second-placed Marshfield on Saturday will pull them towards the thick of the action near the summit.

Sore, who is a member of the Wiltshire county squad for the first time this summer, hit top form for his club last time out with a brilliant century to set up their victory at the County Ground and he hopes Swindon will benefit from playing with a spring in their step at Marshfield.

“We haven’t been happy with some of the performances we have put in so far this season but last weekend was a really good result and it was important for us to find our form again,” said Sore, who laid waste to the Malmesbury attack last weekend to score 139 - the highest score in the county last week - .

“We have got some good momentum going into the game this Saturday on the back of last weekend.

“We have been training really hard to try and improve our game and thankfully, that looks like it has started to pay off.

“We will work hard in the week to iron out the creases that we found in our game against Malmesbury, and we also have a Twenty20 game on Friday night too, so hopefully we can do well in that one as well and have even more momentum to build on.”

Swindon will be up against it in the face of a Marshfield side who have lost only once in the WEPL this season – although that defeat came just a fortnight ago and saw them skittled out for a meagre 79 against leaders Trowbridge.

They bounced back to win at Westbury & District last time out and Sore knows Swindon cannot afford to let their level drop at Broadleys but insists his team-mates will make the trip without any fear.

“They are a good side and that have had some excellent results this year, so it will be a difficult game,” added Sore.

“But we know that on our day we are also a very good team too and if we all perform like we did last weekend we should be in a good position to do well again.”
