LECHLADE captain Freddie Martin wants last weekend’s loss at Biddestone to be the last of the season for his side as they look to reignite their Premier Two Glos/Wilts title challenge.

Martin’s men remain top of the table despite that defeat but are only four points clear of second-placed Cheltenham and just 13 points separate the top four teams, which also includes Rockhampton and Saturday’s visitors Goatacre.

“Last weekend was disappointing, we didn’t perform to the level that we know we can. Hopefully we can bounce back,” said Martin.

“We want to get back to winning ways but we know it won’t be easy against a Goatacre side who are chasing the league title as well.

“There are only four games left, so we are just going to try to win all four. It’s between us, Goatacre, Cheltenham and Rockhampton for the title and we have still got all of them to play.”

The Biddestone defeat was just Lechlade’s fourth of the summer. After each of the previous three, they responded with a win in their next completed match.

Martin is in no mood to surrender that impressive record when Goatacre travel to the Manor Ground this weekend.

“Hopefully we can carry that on,” said Martin. “We know what went wrong last time so we have to look to correct those mistakes.

“With the bat, people got in and then gave it away, so the guys know they need to take a bit more ownership when they are out in the middle. With the ball, we weren’t really tight enough and we searching for wickets a little bit, so we need to have a bit more control.

“Everyone is available this weekend so we will be at full strength.”
