LECHLADE skipper Freddie Martin has labelled tomorrow’s trip to Cheltenham as ‘massive’.

The Manor Ground men hold a 17-point lead over their hosts with three games of the Premier Two Glos/Wilts campaign remaining.

The young Lechlade captain knows that a win for his table-topping team will virtually put one hand on the title.

“It is a huge game and when you look at the table, if we win then that should probably put us in the driving seat for the title – it is massive,” Martin said.

“I think that we have got our best XI available - we are just going there to win.”

The trip to the Victoria Ground ground will be a chance for Lechlade to avenge their two-run loss to Cheltenham back in June.

That day at the Manor Ground, the hosts restricted the then league leaders to 229-6.

However, Lechlade came up short as the tail collapsed from 204-5 to 227 all out.

Yet Martin said that he has always had the belief in his squad to be able to challenge.

“I was knew that we have got a really good squad,” Martin said. “This was the aim (challenging for the title) at the start of the season.

“The first team have done really well and thankfully we are in that position.”

Martin is also planning to send former Lechlade coach Luke Sellers home in defeat, with the strike bowler now plying his trade for Cheltenham.

He said: “It should be a good battle against him, but we are going to send him home very unhappy.”
