AFTER returning to winning ways last weekend, Royal Wootton Bassett captain Darren Beasant has his eye on back-to-back victories when his team host Trowbridge tomorrow.

Following their return to WEPL Wiltshire, Bassett have acclimatised well with two wins from four matches.

While Bassett skipper is happy with how his team have applied themselves so far, he now thinks it is time to kick on after their success over Marlborough last weekend.

“We were realistic with our ambitions this year and we started off with the simple aim of retaining our WEPL status,” said Beasant. “We were disappointed with the account we gave of ourselves against Great Bedwyn and Devizes was a bit of a lottery.

“It was important that last week we got back to winning and of course we would love to go and get back-to-back wins.

“When we have our best team out there, I don’t think there are many teams who would look forward to playing us.”

While Beasant eyes momentum, he admits it won’t be an easy task with their opponents currently sitting in second place.

He also believes this is the perfect chance to measure their progress by coming up against one of the stronger sides in the league.

“It is a tough fixture and, to be honest, we have had a couple of tough weeks now,” added the captain.

“I think they’ll be up there, somewhere in the top three, at the end of the season.

“Of course it is a chance to test yourself against good players. Hopefully we can go out and surprise a few people, like we did against Warminster in the first week.

“The boys have learned a lot since the start of the season and for some of them it has been their first step into WEPL cricket.

“If you don’t show up on any given week, you get beaten and Great Bedwyn showed us that. You have to prepare properly every weekend.”

Swindon will be hoping to maintain their fine start to the season when they head to Devizes.

The leaders have yet to taste a defeat this campaign and travel to London Road on the back of a 95-run success over Great Bedwyn.
