LECHLADE quick bowler Chris Harwood admits that it is hard not being able to do the job he was brought into do.

The former Worcestershire academy paceman suffered a side strain during the Manor Ground side’s 64-run success at then Premier One leaders Downend back on June 3.

The American-born bowler, who went to Malvern College alongside Lechlade skipper Freddie Martin, has been told he is unlikely to be able to bowl for up seven weeks.

“The side is not great, if I’m honest. I have been to see a physio and have been told that I’m looking at six to seven weeks of not being able to bowl,” said Harwood.

“Hopefully I can get back bowling a little quicker, but all I can do is try and score as many runs as I can and be as annoying as possible in the field.”

Following their success at Downend, Lechlade then returned home to entertain Bridgwater, however, Martin’s side were unable to make it two wins in a row as they suffered a 99-run defeat.

Tomorrow they face another tough test of their top-flight credentials as they head to second-placed Clevedon.

“We have had some tough teams and the results have been pretty mixed, but we know that when we have a full team, we are competitive,” said Harwood, who played in the Birmingham League last season with Ombersley.

“The league is pretty similar to what I was used to last year. You have the top three teams then everyone else.”
