GREAT Britain's main Rio Olympics contenders - including Wiltshire's Kitty King - all made their presence felt on day one of the Equi-Trek Bramham International Horse Trials in Yorkshire.

With the four-strong eventing team for Rio due to be announced in just 26 days' time, Bramham - as it was ahead of London 2012 - is a key performance indicator for the British selectors.

And they were not left disappointed following the dressage phase of this year's CIC three-star competition.

Although Germany's Pia Munker leads the 45-strong field on a score of 38.7 penalties with Louis M, the top 12 also includes Lower Stanton St Quintin-based rider King and fellow British stars Gemma Tattersall, Pippa Funnell, Tina Cook and William Fox-Pitt.

King, who was fourth at last September's European Championships in Scotland, holds third place behind Munker and British prospect Holly Woodhead aboard her top horse Ceylor LAN.

And Tattersall continued her impressive form from the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials last month, where she finished third as leading British rider, to lie fourth and fifth overnight on Chico Bella P and Quicklook V, respectively.

Seasoned Olympian Fox-Pitt, meanwhile, is rapidly finding consistency after he was seriously injured following a cross-country fall at last October's World Young Horse Championships in France, and piloted his 2015 Badminton winner Chilli Morning into 11th spot, just ahead of another Fox-Pitt challenger Parklane Hawk.

In Bramham's CCI three-star class, Australian Sammi Birch leads halfway through dressage on Hunter Valley II, clear of Britain's Lauren Shannon and Quality Purdey, with Yorkshireman Oliver Townend and Sandiman II holding third.
