Parsons bags hat-trick for in-form Marine

JOSH Parsons made swift work of fallen FA Cup underdogs Yate Town with a brilliant first-half hat-trick in Supermarine’s 3-0 Southern League win last night.

Yate were the lowest ranked team left in last weekend’s first round proper and gave a good account of themselves at League Two Cheltenham before finishing on the end of another 3-0 defeat.

And the FA Cup hangover was evident as Marine left their visitors standing with a flying start to lead within the first five minutes, as Kyle Lapham galloped down the right and teed Parsons up for a tap-in.

Parsons’ second was sublime, controlling a left-wing cross, leaving two Yate defenders on their backsides and coolly rolling home the ball.

Mitchell Page’s dismissal for violent conduct did little to help Yate’s cause, and Parsons wrapped up all three points before the break by slotting in Ash Edenborough’s centre.

The win lifts Marine to seventh in Division One South & West, and boss Dave Webb was satisfied with a job well done.

He said: “Yate looked a little tired after the weekend but we played very well and scored our goals at crucial times.

“We’ve got some momentum going now, we’re giving ourselves a chance and I couldn’t ask for any more.”

Webb reserved special praise for hat-trick hero Parsons, adding: “He’s adapted brilliantly. When he first came to the club he looked a bit lost but he got his head down, worked exceptionally hard, got himself fit and now he’s reaping the rewards by doing what he loves to do - scoring goals.

“I hope we can hang on to him because I think he’s going to be a big player for this club for years to come.”
