HELLENIC LEAGUE: Snow news is good news for Turner

Swindon Advertiser: Wootton Bassett boss Dave Turner Wootton Bassett boss Dave Turner

DAVE Turner is hoping he has timed his mid-season break just right with snow poised to cause havoc in local non-league.

Snow is scheduled to fall today and tomorrow in the Swindon area according to the Met Office, making it the perfect time for Wootton Bassett chief Turner to jet off on holiday.

The jaunt is an annual event for Turner and this year he is hopeful that he will not miss a game because of his travels to Macedonia, with the Division One West clash with Old Woodstock at Rylands Way already looking extremely doubtful.

And the boss has urged the Hellenic League to call off all the local action due to the expected bad winter weather.

“I really don’t think they will get the game on and I’m quietly hoping it will be off,” said Turner.

“I’m hoping the league will do what they did last year and do a blanket cancellation and I’m sure they will.

“It’s the travelling that causes a problem as much as anything.”

Elsewhere, Malmesbury, who have only played twice in two months, look unlikely to get a game on at North Leigh Reserves.

Other games in the division looking set to be off are Purton-Clanfield, Lambourn-New College and Hook Norton-Fairford.

In the Hellenic Premier, Highworth’s trip to Abingdon and Shrivenham’s home game with Ardley are unlikely to beat the weather.

One cup match is scheduled to take place, Cricklade’s trip to Shrewton in the quarter-final of the Wilts Senior Cup.
