SOUTHERN LEAGUE: No rest for Marine

Swindon Advertiser: Marine manager Dave Webb Marine manager Dave Webb

DAVE Webb wasn't going to allow his Supermarine players the day off despite snow causing havoc with local football on Saturday.

Supermarine's game at home to Didcot was among the stacks of non-league games called off and Webb, keen to keep his players' fitness levels up, took his squad to the @futsal facility in Kembrey Park.

It might not be quite the same as regular outdoor training, but Webb believes it was a worthwhile exercise.

“It's a bit of a different game but it was good. We had 15 there so we just played some five-a-side games,” said Webb.

“It kept them ticking over and that's all we can do. They were all desperate to do something.

“Everywhere else was booked up so I'm just pleased we managed to get something and blow out the cobwebs.”

Meanwhile, Webb has held talks with midfielder Chris Taylor as the midfielder considers his options.

Taylor was the subject of two seven-day approaches and was able to talk to both parties this weekend.

The playmaker is a popular figure at the Webb's Wood Stadium and his manager has done his utmost to keep the former captain at the club.

“I spoke to Chris at great length (on Friday) and told him we want him to stay,” said Webb.

“He'll now consider his options and I know he enjoys the club so hopefully he will stay.

“The seven days are up now so he is going to speak to the two clubs, and he will have a decision to make.”

Every single game in the Southern League this weekend was postponed due to the snow, which included Cirencester's home match against Wimborne.

Chippenham will have to travel to Bashley in the Southern Premier at a later stage after that fixture also fell foul of the snow.
