SOUTHERN LEAGUE: Poole boss wary of Marine youngsters

POOLE boss Tom Killick expects a tough contest from Swindon Supermarine when the South Marston side arrive on the south coast this evening.

Both teams are vying for promotion from Division One South & West, with the Dolphins harbouring more realistic hopes of finishing top as things stands.

Killick was among the spectators that watched Supermarine play at Hungerford earlier this month, and while the Wiltshire side might have lost 1-0, the Poole manager was nonetheless impressed.

He said: “After about five minutes, I thought Hungerford would be a bigger threat but, after watching the game in its entirety, Swindon were a very good team.

“At first glance, they looked quite young and lightweight. But they were a good footballing side with some really good players.

“Although they weren’t as strong physically as some teams in the division, as a footballing side, you could see why they have been doing as well as they have.”

Supermarine might have had barely any match action over the course of the last two months - they have only played twice since the beginning of December - but striker Josh Parsons is optimistic on the chances of replicating the 11-match unbeaten run the team achieved at the end of last year.

“If we can get a win away at Poole, all the players’ confidence will be right back up and we could go on another run again,” he said.

“It’s one of our biggest games of the season.

“I don’t really know too much about them but from what I hear they are a good team and the way they have been playing suggests that.

In the absence of a league game on Saturday, Supermarine’s players went for a training run instead.

“We weren’t overjoyed but it’s got to be done at the end of the day,” added Parsons.
