DAVE Webb has stressed the need to turn the Webb’s Wood Stadium into a fortress if Swindon Supermarine want to start climbing the table ahead of the visit of Sholing this evening.

Marine’s 1-0 win over North Leigh ten days ago was just the second time they have triumphed on home turf in the league this term.

That meagre return is a big reason why Marine are languishing in 16th in the table as the season approaches its midway point.

Webb’s men were beaten 2-1 at Taunton Town at the weekend but it is recording good results back home that the Marine chief has made his top priority.

That is no easy task tonight, although Sholing are one place below Marine in the table, they will head to Swindon high in confidence after claiming six league points over the past week.

Webb said: “After the positive performance against North Leigh it’s important we get back to that level.

“I’ve stressed that we badly needed to improve our home form and we were able to do that in the North Leigh game. It’s important for us to carry that on now.

“Sholing are no mugs and it’s not going to be easy but it’s a game we need to win.

“There are no easy games in this league and although they’re below us I think they’ve won their last couple of games so have a bit of confidence in their camp.

“After that we’ve got a tough trip to Yate and then the games start to come thick and fast over Christmas. It’s important we try to gather a bit of momentum going into that period.”

Sam Morris will not feature tonight having also missed the trip to Taunton through injury and Webb is now likely to be without the full-back throughout the festive period.

Webb said: “Sam has a Grade Two hamstring strain. There’s no tear which is good news but I think he’s still likely to be out for a couple of weeks.

“We may have to rethink our tactics and get defenders playing in defence.

“We’ve asked midfielders to fill in there before but we probably need people with natural defensive instincts in the full-back positions to give us a little bit more protection.”
