AFC Tap & Barrel romped into the semi-finals of the Bunny Uzzell Memorial Shield with an emphatic 8-2 thrashing of Division 6 side Swindon Athletic.

David Shephard’s Division Three high fliers were rarely troubled after Craig Brizell gave them the lead inside seven minutes.

Sam Ockwell led the Tap & Barrel charge by netting a hat-trick, while Adam Devine and Phil Scarisbrick both bagged a brace.

Although his side are now just two wins away from silverware, boss Shephard is not getting carried away.

“It was a good game and I was happy with the way the lads played. We won both halves 4-1 and were always on top,” said Shephard.

“For a Division Six side they played their hearts out. They did for 70 or 80 minutes but then they got a bit tired and we scored three goals in the last 15 minutes.

“We’re not looking any further than the next league game this weekend, I’m too long in the tooth to do that.

“Yes we are in the semi-finals of the cup but we can’t do anything about that until that game comes around.

“The league is still our top priority. At the start of the season we wanted to win it and it’s no different now.”

PSG Amateurs are also into the last four of the competition after a 3-2 success at Smart Movers.

In the SSFL Knockout Cup, FC Walcot and Deers Leap booked their places in the semi-finals by beating FS Swindon and Stratton Saints respectively.

County Ground, FC Abbey Meads and Inter Sandgate are also in the running for silverware after reaching the last four of the SSFL Chairman’s Trophy.

In league action, Division Three leaders Cleeve Tech thrashed Tawny Owl 7-2. Gorsehill Borough won 4-1 at AFC Greendown in Division 5, while Westbrook matched that scoreline in Division 6 at Rosier Rovers.
