SWINDON Supermarine conceded a goal in each half as they fell to a 2-0 home defeat in their mid-table Evo-Stik League Southern Division One South & West battle against Mangotsfield United tonight.

Mangotsfield took the lead midway through the first half as Lewis Hogg fired home a free kick.

The points were wrapped up for the Bristol side in the latter stages as Matt Groves found the top corner.

Highworth Town suffered a heavy defeat ahead of Saturday’s FA Vase semi final first leg against North Shields as they were soundly beaten 5-1 by Wootton Bassett Town in the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division.

Bassett made a fine start and were a goal to the good after just two minutes as Dan Bailey’s drive went past Highworth keeper Gary Stevens.

They doubled their lead shortly afterwards as Steve Robertson finished a good team move.

TJ Bohane halved the deficit before the interval as he fired home a penalty for Highworth.

Bassett put the game to bed in the second half as Nathan Gambling finished and then added another from the penalty spot, with Highworth reduced to 10 men following the sending off of Gareth Davies.

Gambling completed his hat-trick with last kick of the game.

In Division One West, Purton subsided in the final quarter of their third-versus fourth match against Tuffley Rovers to lose 3-0 in Gloucestershire.

Marcus Foxwell broke the visitors’ resistance with the opening goal on 66 minutes and three minutes later the lead was doubled by Mark Ford.

Brett James wrapped things up for the home side on 87 minutes.

Meanwhile, New College are in action tomorrow night when they host North Leigh United (kick-off 7.45pm).
