A LAST gasp equaliser left Fairford Town boss Gareth Davies over the moon as his side held their own with league leaders Carterton.

The home side kept the leaders quiet for the first half but found themselves a goal behind when Ryan Curtin scored a breakaway goal with 15 minutes remaining.

However, Fairford did not give up and with the last kick of the game James Townsend was able to chest the ball down to Matt Boucher who fired home.

“To be fair I thought the first half we were decent, we just did everything right and the plan was to go and nullify them and we looked decent,” said Davies.

“Second half we had a little 20 minute spell where they put us under pressure and just a little mistake, it was a decent counter attack from them and we went 1-0 down.

“We just kept going. This time last year we would have just folded and probably would have gone on and got beat.

“With literally the last kick of the game the keeper has kicked the ball out and James Townsend has chested it and put Matt Boucher in, who has gone on and rolled it into the net.

“There wasn’t even time for a centre, so literally the last kick of the game so I was over the moon.

“What we want to do is do well in the league this year, and Carterton are top and flying and I just wanted the players to go out and express themselves and they did that.

“We know that we have got a good bunch of lads, but we just need to keep our heads down.

“We’re only six games in, there is a long way to go and we just need to make sure we are doing everything we can to look after ourselves.

“We’re getting there and yesterday was a very good point for us.”
