SWINDON Spitfires Under 15s started their defence of the League Cup with a 4-0 victory at Bath.

The game started with the girls on the front foot from the first whistle, with the first 20 minutes being played with them camped in the Bath half.

Yasmin Ward came close to opening the scoring for Spitfires after her curling shot was well saved by the hosts’ stopper before Shannon King and Freya Sullivan went close.

On 20 minutes, Lani Dickinson replaced Charlie Tinson up front and within two minutes the move paid off when Sullivan picked out Spitfires’ new forward. Her initial shot was saved but she was able to bundle the rebound over the line.

Dickinson doubled Swindon’s lead after following a lovely team move.

Although Spitfires were piling on the pressure they still had to repel the rare counter-attacks from the hosts, with Carla Heaton showing a safe pair of hands.

Spitfires made it 3-0 before the interval when Sullivan, who had earlier shot wide after a King cross, fired home under pressure from a Bath defender.

In the second period, King, Yasmin, Tamzin Davis and Kya Ayres were all unlucky not to increase the lead. Tinson then showed some neat footwork, only to be crowded off the ball.

Heaton was then called into action and although she was unable to hold on to the ball, the Bath goal was disallowed for offside.

Spits responded and with 10 minutes of the match remaining, Davis collected the ball on the edge of the area, turned a Bath defender before firing into the bottom corner.
