SWINDON Supermarine showed no sign of rustiness as they returned from a two-week break to complete a 3-1 home win over Marlow.

Dave Webb’s side took a while to get going in the contest and were punished in 20th minute when Yashwa Romeo struck for the visitors.

However, Supermarine reacted immediately when Bradley Gray flicked on a corner for Connor Waldon to head home at the far post three minutes later.

The scores remained level at the break but Supermarine were in front in the 50th minute when Josh Parsons found Josh Morse who fired home from 20 yards.

The hosts completed the scoring in the 70th minute when Gray guided in a Morse cross to extend Supermarine’s unbeaten run in the league to 12 games.

“Yeah I’m really pleased with the result,” said Webb.

“When you have a couple of weeks off, we have only played three times this year, you’re never sure how you are going to respond.

“To get a win against a very talented Marlow side – they are a young team but have some talented players – is a good result.

“We didn’t start well. I don’t think we had a kick for 10 minutes and then we sort of got ourselves into the game.

“They scored and then from a set-play, which we had been talking about improving, Bradley Gray has flicked it on and Connor Waldon was in the right place to get it over the line.

“Once we started to work a little bit harder when we had the ball we started to get our rewards.

“The second and third goals were superb so we were really pleased.”

Gray’s goal and an assist impressed manager Webb, as did Dan Lawrence’s performance in between the sticks, as he is set fly to Villareal to join up with England Schoolboy’s tomorrow (MONDAY).

“Credit to Dan he has had a season he will never forget,” added the Webb’s Wood boss.

“He made his Southern League debut and yesterday was his third start, after young Harvey was recalled to Hereford because their goalkeeper was ill.

“He made a couple of crucial saves at crucial times and is growing in stature all the time.

“Brad’s also been a revelation over the last few weeks, he is really playing at the top of his game and it is really important.

“He is still a young player but is regarded in this squad as a senior player.

“He is really playing well and is a great catalyst for us to be bouncing off.”
