SIX appears to be the magic number for reigning champions Greyhound in their pursuit of a second successive Division One crown.

After putting second-placed Penhill United to the sword a fortnight ago in their last league outing with a 6-0 success, the league leaders repeated the trick on Sunday as they brushed aside SKS Blyskawica by the same scoreline.

The win restored Dave Hawkins’ side’s lead at the summit to five points over Penhill, who have played two more games than Greyhound, and six over FC Walcot, who were not in action at the weekend.

Nathan Blackford got the ball rolling for the table-toppers as he struck twice to give his side a 2-0 lead.

Rory Sproule also helped himself to a brace, while Glenn Armstrong and Lewis Page completed the rout.

“That was probably as good as we have played all season,” Hawkins said.

“Whenever we play Blyskawica, it is tough, but they like to play the game the right way and that suits us.

“Things are looking good at the moment, but anything could happen as it is only a two-game cushion.

“We have a good side, but so do Walcot and Gas, and we still have to play them before the end of the season.

“We knew that we would be up there when the season started – we just have to take it a week at a time now.”

Elsewhere in the division, AFC Gas, who have only played six league games this term, were held to a 2-2 draw at Deers Leap.

In Division Two, Shrivenham Sunday were unable to take advantage of a rare drop in points from leaders West Swindon Wanderers.

As the table-toppers were held to a goalless draw at AFC Moonrakers, second-placed Shrivvy slumped to a 2-1 home loss against struggling Rodbourne Real.

FS Swindon maintained their slim title hopes with a 7-3 success over Wanborough, while Fairford Sunday defeated The Windmill 6-3 and Cleeve Tech drew 2-2 with G Power Solutions.

Leaders DPR showed the gulf in class between the top and bottom of Division Three as they fired a dozen past basement boys AFC Wedge without reply.

Elsewhere, second-placed Woodlands Edge ran out 5-0 winners over Moovahome, Rudis beat Chiseldon Sunday 4-1, DH Fitness enjoyed a 4-2 success over Smart Movers and Eldene and Stratton Saints played out a 1-1 draw.

Cricklade MTA continued to rein in Division Four leaders Fox & Hounds Freshbrook as they put five past Purton Westbrook to close the gap at the top to three points with three games in hand, while Marlborough Town Casuals edged out Coleshill Youth in a 13-goal thriller and Croft Junior defeated Gorsehill Borough 3-2.

In Division Five, Haydon moved to within two points of the summit following a 7-1 success at Cricklade Park Rangers.
