GARETH Davies has warned his Fairford Town troops that local rivals Shrivenham are more than capable of derailing their Division One West title challenge this weekend.

Michael McNally’s Shrivvy have been scrapping it our near the bottom of the table for most of the season but head to Cinder Lane on Saturday with back-to-back wins under their belts.

A 2-0 victory at home to Cirencester Town Development last Friday moved Fairford three points clear at the top of the table and Davies is mindful that over-confidence could see his side surrender their grip on the summit.

“We said last Friday had the potential to be a banana skin because Cirencester are not a bad little side and have got some good young players, and Shrivenham are the same story,” said Davies.

“They have been on the up in the last few weeks and they will look to come to us and try to turn us over.

“It’s a second derby game in a row for us, we’ve also had Lee Brown leave us and go back to Shrivenham recently, so there are lots of little factors that come into the game and add something to it.

“We just need to go out and try to perform to our best and it’s the same old story, we just have to go out and try to grind out three points and that’s it.”

Saturday’s game will serve as part of Fairford’s 125th anniversary celebrations and will be a Former Players’ Day.

The clubhouse will be open from 12pm, with former players, managers, coaches and supporters young and old encouraged to attend.

There will be evening entertainment in the clubhouse after the game from Swindon band Good Times as well as a display of club memorabilia.

Entry is free for all former players/managers with regular prices in operation elsewhere at just £5 for adults, £2 concessions and free for under 16s.

Elsewhere, Purton return to league action having gone out of the Bluefin Sports Supplementary Challenge Cup last weekend. Justin Miller’s men host Hook Norton at the Red House.

However, lowly New College are without a game this weekend.
