FC WALCOT will be hoping to clinch silverware at the first time of asking after booking an all-Swindon county cup final against rivals Greyhound last weekend.

Walcot edged out Salisbury & District Sunday League outfit Rose & Crown 5-4 in the semi-finals of the Wiltshire Sunday Cup whilst Greyhound, who won the competition last season, beat another side from Division One of the Swindon League – Penhill United – 2-1 after extra-time to tee up a showdown between the two for the trophy.

A Devan Bryan hat-trick, plus goals from Jason Milhench and Lee Hayward, had Walcot 5-1 up against Rose & Crown and despite the visitors rallying to pull back to within a single goal, the Swindon outfit held on to seal a spot in their first-ever cup final.

“When you play teams from other leagues, you can look online at their results but it doesn’t really tell you much – they were a good side on Sunday but we shouldn’t have given away those goals,” said manager Paul Newman.

“This will be FC Walcot’s first cup final and it’s a good one to be in.

“We’ve played Greyhound in the league already (a 3-2 loss in November) and we dominated them football-wise but Greyhound are Greyhound and they always find a way to win.

“We’ve got them in the semi-finals of the Knockout Cup too (on March 20).

“We’re really looking forward to that one and hopefully we’ll have a few people come to watch us – we had 50 there on Sunday.”

Elsewhere, G Power Solutions and The Windmill were involved in the game of the day in Division Two, with the former edging out a 15-goal thriller 8-7, whilst Shrivenham Sunday’s title hopes sustained a blow as they lost 2-1 to Fairford Sunday.

In Division Three, Woodlands Edge and Uruguay Socieded, who are second and third respectively, were unable to take advantage of DPR’s inactivity as they played out a 3-3 draw.

Willowgreen Hotspur bested Gorsehill Borough 3-2 in Division Four, whilst Haydon went top of Division Five with a 7-2 win over Northern Lights.
