SWINDON Supermarine’s second-half performance in Saturday’s victory against Wimborne Town can inspire the team to promotion, says manager Dave Webb.

The team came from behind to secure a 2-1 victory and maintain their push for promotion from Southern League Division One South and West.

Wimborne have proved tough opposition in the past and this latest result was Webb’s first away win against the Dorset side.

It was a tough start for Marine who, despite playing well, found themselves a goal down after Wimborne player Billy Maybury hit the back of the net with a blistering free-kick from distance.

The score stayed this way until half time but following the break, the quality of the promotion chasing team began to show.

Joe Shepherd got on the end of a cross to head the equaliser before Connor Thompson slid in at the far post to score and give Marine a vital three points.

“I’m over the moon,” said Webb.

“It’s always a difficult place to go and today was no different. They have a lot of experienced players and some younger ones so there is a lot of desire. Credit to them for their first-half performance.

“They got about us and took the lead. We didn’t do too badly in the first half but the second half performance was magnificent.

“We showed our quality in the second half and that’s why we won the game. We need to keep showing that in the remaining eight games.”

The win, Marine’s second in a row, keeps them third in the League and firmly in the hunt for at least a place in the play-offs.

Webb believes, with not many games left and many of the top teams still to play each other, it is set to be an exciting end to the season.

He said: “I’ve been here before so hopefully I have learnt what it takes. It’s about getting in that top five.

“I believe this team can beat anyone on their day. There are good players and a good spirit. We’re in a great place so we’ve got to make sure we get over the line now.”
