THIRTY years after starting his managerial career, Highworth Town boss Jon Fisher says he cannot wait to get to the end of this season.

Relegated in his first season as a 29-year-old manager, Fisher has since won three league titles and was a game away from Wembley when his side were knocked out in the FA Vase semi-finals last year.

“I am looking forward to packing up now,” he said.

“I have done 30 years and I cannot do anymore. I would like to carry on but I don’t enjoy it like I used to. If I had the chance now, I would finish tomorrow.

“It’s been a long stint but I have enjoyed more than I didn’t and I am ready to go. I just have not got what I used to have, I don’t have the desire and drive.

“When that goes it’s time to go but I wish Highworth all the best and I will still be supporting them.”

Fisher will be replaced by current Corsham Town manager Jeff Roberts at the end of the season, it was announced this week.

And in between a few extra rounds of golf, Fisher says he will still be following Town in the future and has wished his successor good luck.

He said: “Obviously it’s the club’s decision, only time will tell, but they think it’s the right appointment.

“They have done what they think is right for the club. He’s keen to do it and if you are keen, it gives you a chance.”

Highworth take on Longlevens AFC in the Premier Division on Saturday and have six games to go to try and secure a top-six finish, the final target of Fisher’s long career.

“It’s going to be difficult, the last six games are if you are not fighting relegation or pushing to win the league,” he added.

“We are looking at top six, if we are lucky. It gets to be a long drawn out affair because all you can play for is pride.”

Also in the Hellenic League Premier Division, Royal Wootton Bassett are looking for a first win since February 6, a run of eight games, when they welcome Ascot United on Saturday.
