FAIRFORD Town manager Gareth Davies is looking for a big response from his side when they make the short trip to Purton tomorrow (noon).

The Hellenic League Division One West high-flyers slumped to a shock 1-0 loss at lowly Letcombe on Bank Holiday Tuesday to end to their 12-match unbeaten run.

The Cinder Lane chief slammed that performance as ‘toothless’ and has vowed that will not happen again.

“If we play like we did at Letcombe then we will get turned over, but that won’t happen, we won’t allow it,” Davies said.

“We know that we have got another tough game and they will be right up for it.”

The defeat at Letcombe on Tuesday left Fairford, who have two games in hand, trailing leaders Hook Norton by eight points.

While the display was disappointing, Davies is not going to let it get him, or his players too down beat.

“It’s not the end of the world, although I was feeling pretty down after the (Letcombe) game,” the Fairford manager said.

“What we have to do now is focus on our next game – which is Purton.

“The players are aware they can’t play like that again, we just have to move on because there is still plenty of football to be played.”

Purton themselves will be looking for a big response from their players after they slumped to a shock 4-0 home defeat to New College on Boxing Day.

Justin Miller’s side had been vying with the teams at the top of the table but the thrashing leaves them 13 points off the pace.

New College will have to wait until the new year before they get the chance to build on that victory with their next game a trip to Milton United awaiting them on January 7, when Shrivenham, who have not played over the festive period, make the trip to Clanfield 85.
