FAIRFORD Town secured the Hellenic League Division One West title and promotion to the Premier Division with a 5-0 thrashing of Milton United last night.
Town’s celebrations were put on ice at the weekend following a shock 3-2 loss at Cirencester Town Development but they did not dwell on that disappointment for long and clinched the crown in emphatic style at Cinder Lane.
The win moves Gareth Davies’ side up to 66 points and, coupled with Hook Norton’s 4-3 defeat at Clanfield 85, they cannot be caught with three games to go.
Sam Ockwell broke the deadlock for Fairford after 20 minutes, pouncing on a mistake by the Milton keeper, before doubling the lead just before the break with a towering header.
Lee Smith made it 3-0 soon after the restart before Levi Cox got in on the act after another defensive error from the visitors. Dan Reynolds then completed the rout in the final minute.
