SHRIVENHAM have been promoted to the Hellenic League Premier Division following defeat for rivals Easingston Sports at the weekend.

Victory for Sports at home to Letcombe would have seen them climb above Shirvvy in Division One West and finish as runners-up to champions Ardley United.

However, they fell to a shock 5-3 loss at home to remain behind Gareth Davies’ side in the table, so it is the Barrington Park side who now take the second promotion place.

Davies told Shrivenham’s official website: “I’m so happy for the club.

“There are so many people that work tirelessly behind the scenes to help us and I’m pleased we’ve delivered the prospect of playing at a better level next season.”

For Davies, who only arrived at the club back in September, it marks a second successive promotion after he led near neighbours Fairford Town to the Division One West title last season.

“The players have been outstanding and really bought into what we were trying to achieve at the club,” added Davies.

“We’ve only been only in charge since September and along with Martyn (Robinson) who was already at the club, I’ve personally seen a huge improvement in the playing staff, not only on the pitch but off it as well.

“The team has changed somewhat from when we started and the boys that have stayed have really improved too – they have been superb.

“We obviously brought some new faces, players that have experience at this level and players that we trust and knew would be able to deliver.”

Davies has already started to turn his attentions towards next season as he looks to ensure Shrivvy are competitive in the top tier.

“The club deserves success and hopefully we can continue taking it forwards. Although we’ll enjoy the moment, for us as the management team, the hard work begins now,” said Davies.

“It’s been a fantastic seven months and I’d like thank Ady Roper, Chris Robinson, Martyn Robinson and Mike Alexander for all their hard work this season and everybody else connected with the running of Shrivenham FC who have helped this season. It’s been a real team effort.”
