THE Stuart Buckland-trained Son of Delboy won the £15,000 Produce Stakes final at the Abbey Stadium on Saturday night.
Trapping well from two, Delboy managed to overcome some early scrimmaging and also a late charge by competition favourite Johnnys Boy, to win by a short head.
Buckland, who also bred the greyhound, said: ‘I’m just over the moon for the owners, the kennel hands, everyone. This is a brilliant prize.
“He battled hard to hold off the six dog (Johnnys Boy), that was just an awesome performance.”
The Produce Stakes final rounded off a superb night’s racing in which a bumper crowd witnessed wins for local greyhounds Rians Gamble (puppy race), Witcombe Dilemma (standard), Pookies Jess (509m), and Droopys Harper (stayers).
