SWINDON Flames Juniors experienced mixed fortunes in their most recent visit to Farnborough Leisure Centre.

The youngsters were sunk 4-2 by Oxford Hurricanes but bounced back to thrash Banbury Bulldogs 9-4.

Play was scrappy in the first period against the Hurricanes and the only goal came after eight minutes when a shot from William Johnson-Coleman found its way across the line.

In the second period, Ryan Couling-King levelled two minutes in and then Jack Townsend put Flames in front for the first time soon after.

Swindon squandered chances to increase their lead and were left to regret their profligacy when Josh Hickman found space to equalise.

It went from bad to worse for the Wiltshire side as with less than two minutes left, Oxford scored twice within 30 seconds to secure the win.

Flames were well off the pace at the start of their contest against Banbury and their opponents raced in to a 3-0 lead.

Eventually the Swindon outfit were spurred into action and Will Harding pulled two goals back which included a short-handed effort.

Couling-King also fired home but his shot went straight through the net and was not spotted by the referee.

In the second period Flames were in uncompromising mood and Oliver Thompson, Couling-King and Harry Lane all converted to put the Flames into a two-goal lead.

Although Banbury replied with a goal of their own, further efforts from Townsend (2) and Oliver Thompson (2) put the polish on victory.

Swindon’s under 12s journeyed to Oxford for their first competitive game recently.

Late withdrawals meant only four players took part - Oliver Dunmore, Adrian Smith, Joseph Llewellyn and Jamie Baxter - but they did themselves proud.

Swindon were 2-0 down early on but Dunmore and Llewellyn netted to level matters.

However, the visitors understandably tired as they were unable to substitute any players and Oxford scored twice more to win 4-2.
