NEARLY 250 people took part in this year’s Cricklade half marathon and 10k race this weekend.

The half marathon was won by Dave Bell, of Cirencester AC and Triathlon Club, in a personal best time of one hour 10 minutes and 38 seconds, while Lucy Hodgson from Newquay was the first female home in 1:25:41.

Bell, 29, said: “I’m so pleased by the result, especially that I’ve managed to shave about either seconds of my personal best which I set at the Stratford Half Marathon earlier this year. It is a really good course which I enjoy running.

”It does get a little bumpy towards the end which can be a little challenging when you’re beginning to tire. I won here last year and I’m very pleased to have done so once again.”

The first male Cricklade runner home was Nick Braid (1:32:24), while Penny Lock-Pullan led the way for the host club’s ladies in 1:47.22.

The 10k race was won by 15-year-old Michael Lennon and he crossed the line in 34:50, while Gemma Collings finished in 42:00 to claim the ladies title.

Brian Uthegenan was the first home for Cricklade in the 10k in 43:04, while Helen McGrath finished in 52:05 to be the first female finisher for the home team.
