WOOTTON Bassett managed to do two things no other side has managed when visiting City of Bath A this season, they scored and left with the win.

Mark Turner was the man who finally ended Bath’s home clean sheet run but the away side’s defence must take credit as well for defending with ten men after Brendan Tilling’s second-half sin-binning.

Before Saturday no other side in Central Two has mustered a goal at Kingswood School, let alone a victory.

The match started at a frantic pace with Bath controlling much of the possession and Bassett regularly hitting their hosts at pace on the counter attack. Man of the match Jakeem Lee was in great form up front and caused the home side's defence a number of problems with skilful runs from the wings.

Eventually a swift counter attacking move paid off when Kristian Mansfield picked out top scorer Turner who calmly fired the ball past the onrushing 'keeper into the goal. A flurry of penalty corners in the run up to half time gave Bassett the chance to extend their lead but found Bath's 'keeper in fine form.

The second half started as a more cagey affair with Bassett looking to protect their lead and Bath slowly building possession.

With midfield maestro Mansfield off the pitch having taken a stick to the forehead, eventually Bath's possession looked to have paid off. Jack Rose in goal dived to his left to save a shot and the rebound fell to the home side's centre forward.

The resulting shot was saved off the line by the hand of defensive stalwart Tilling. This led to a five minute seat in the sin-bin for Tilling and a penalty stroke for Bath. The resulting flick flew wide of the goal and it seemed that Bassett's luck was in.

Led by endless running from captain Matt Daniell, Bassett defended well with 10 men and looked to put the result beyond doubt when Tilling rejoined the match.

However, a collision in the middle following a 50/50 tussle for a lose ball saw Turner sent to the bin for the final five minutes of the match. Bassett held out to take all three points and now move up to third in Central Division 2.
