SWINDON-based Judoka Stuart Jackman, who is diagnosed with Austism Spectrum Disorder, fought his way to silver in the European Special Needs Open in Beverwijk, Holland.

Competing in the over 100kg open weight category, he beat the reigning Dutch special olympic champion before losing out to fellow Great Britain team mate James Pentland in the final.

Jackman said: “I was disappointed to lose the gold but on reflection, the silver is a great achievement.

“I have been on trial for the Great Britain SN Squad over the last few months and have had local businesses Back2Fitness and 24Hr Gym supporting me through my training. I have them, as well as Swindon judo club, to thank for a great result.

“I am going to take this success and will use this as a good foundation to gun for future titles.”

This was the first time that Stuart has represented his country and hopes for a permanent place on the British Special Needs Squad.

He next competes in a tough event, the German SN Open held in Ludwigsberg, Germany on May 9.
