TWO stars of Swindon’s Downlands Artistic Skating have been selected for Team Great Britain for the upcoming Cup of Europe.

Ursula Campbell, 14, and Mia Botta, 11, got the call after picking up podium places in a recent artistic skating competitions in the UK and Europe.

Campbell won the British Cadet age-group (14-15 years) title for the sixth year in a row at the competition in Haywards Heath.

It added to the title in the same category she picked up competing in Holland, where she saw off against skaters from the host country as well as Germany, Belgium and the UK to take top spot.

Botta sealed her GB spot as she finished third in the solo dance championships in Espoir (12-13) category at the British Championships.

In Holland Botta, competing alongside teammate Maisy Williams, 11, in the Espoir level event, finished fourth, with Williams fifth.

Abbie Starsmeare took part in the same competition as Campbell in Holland and finished in 20th place.

At the British Championships nine-year-old Tia-Leone Hall and skated well to finish fourth in the Tots category (under nines), a one place improvement from her display in the Netherlands.

April Dix put in a good display in the Mini event (10-11), but it was not enough to reach the final.

At the British Cadet, Junior and Masters championships Stansmeare also competed for the Cadet title, finishing a credible ninth.

Alice Hall skated for Downlands in the Junior Ladies Solo Dance event and finished sixth, while, Kim Starsmeare, Abbie’s mother, skated in the Masters ‘B’ and finished 15th.

Downlands assistant coach Hayley Hunt skated in the Masters ‘A’ and finished sixth.
