ENGLAND number 14 Tom Maynard helped Sanfordlink Table Tennis celebrate their move to a new home.
Former England U21 international Maynard, who plays for Berkshire-based outfit Kingfisher in the British League Premier Division – the country’s top tier – played an exhibition match against Bristol club coach Dan Ives as Sanfordlink showed off their new base at Swindon Academy.
The 50-year-old club previously operated out of Churchfields Academy and coach Lee Bowen has recently been appointed the Swindon Table Tennis League’s new development officer.
Bowen hopes to take advantage of the rising numbers taking up the sport and wants to centralise coaching at Swindon Academy, as well as organising an inter-schools league.
Sanfordlink are aiming to run the Butterfly Skills Programme, a scheme developed by Table Tennis England and the English Schools Table Tennis Association that offers a framework for coaching and achievement targets for players.
The club holds coaching nights on Fridays at Swindon Academy and children aged eight and upwards are welcome. Cadet sessions run from 5.30 to 6.30pm, Juniors are at 6.30-8pm and over 18s sessions take place from 8-9.30pm.
