LAWN’S Regional League 2 squad faced a tough match against local rivals Hucclecote, needing points to stay in the division.

Both teams came out playing frantically, with wing defence Issy Dawson making good interceptions, but Hucclecote were six goals up by the end of the first quarter.

Lawn made position changes and the heroics of goalkeeper and player of the match Maddie Durham allowed them to cut the gap.

By the end of the third quarter, Lawn had drawn level but a few mistakes late on allowed Hucclecote to snatch a 48-46 win.

In SDNA Division 2, third-placed Fairford A took on Burmah B, who were fourth.

The first quarter went end to end but Fairford trailed by two at the whistle. However, they came out strong and took the lead in the second quarter and continue to build on that until the end.

Strong defensive play from goalkeeper Chloe New and excellent shooting by player of the match Sasha Gibbs helped Fairford win 41-26.

In the same division, Lawn B took on Abbey Meads B and started poorly, going six goals down in the first five minutes. However, they regrouped and ended the first quarter three goals up.

Lawn kept battling and began to pull away, eventually securing a 62-33 win. Goal shooter Abby Simpson was player of the match.

Lawn E took on Raychem F in Division 5 in their last match of the season. They ended up with a 57-23 loss, with wing attack Ellie Holloway named player of the match.

Also in Division 5, Delta Reds D took on third-placed Croft E but with only six players, Delta were on the back foot.

Croft capitalised and led 32-17 at half-time and although Delta played some fine netball with fluent moves into the shooting circle, they were beaten 64-36 by the finish. Player of the match was Yasmin Cady.

Division 3 leaders Lawn C put in a faultless performance against Burmah C. Goalkeeper Charlotte Clinton was player of the match, while there was accurate shooting from Lynn Palmer as Lawn won 49-24.

Lawn A were beaten 47-33 by Burmah A in Division 1. Lawn stayed within five goals for most of the match but could not catch Burmah, who eventually managed to creep further ahead.

Goal Shooter Holly Thompson was player of the match.

In Division 4, Lawn D met Wootton Bassett B in a match that saw some of Lawn’s young members play against their own mums for Wootton Bassett.

Wing Attack Ellie Holloway, playing up, earned her second player of the match accolade of the day but Bassett ended with a convincing win 52-24.
