SWINDON’S 13-year old up-and-coming motorcycle racer Max Cook continues to shine in British Superbikes.

Racing in the HEL Motostar Moto3GP series for ReplicastUK, Max took eighth place overall at Cheshire’s Oulton Park circuit .

Combined with his sixth-placed finish at Silverstone last month, Cook is now seventh overall in the championship standings.

“The team was very happy with me,” said Max.

“The target was top 20 and they didn’t expect top 10.

“The track was really mixed. You had to be pinpoint accurate to follow the one dry line and it was difficult to overtake.

“I was almost gone myself on the first lap on a wet patch. Finding the dry line takes a lot of practice.”

“I’m really happy with my eighth-placed finish this weekend as my goal was to finish in the top ten.

“Earlier in the weekend, it was tough because of weather, my lack of experience and bike set-up issues.

“It was great how me, Danny Webb and the whole team worked together, sorted the problems and came away with an amazing result.

“I really enjoyed myself this weekend and I'm really happy about being seventh in the Championship. I can’t wait for Brands.”

Team manager Gary Dawson said: “He improved in every session he went out in – as he always does – and did a fantastic job.

“He adapted to the track, kept pushing and showed a lot of maturity.

“This is only his second British Championship event and for a rookie, he shows great potential.

“We purposefully set Max a target and every time, he smashes it and goes better. We could not ask for more.”

Cook will face round three of the championship at the Brands Hatch Indy circuit on May 22.
