SWINDON Shock player-coach David Colclough wants to see a reaction from his players after they suffered their first defeat of the season last weekend.

After their 101-91 loss to table topping RCT Gladiators, Colclough admits he wants his team to put in a better defensive performance when they travel to the Plymouth Rebels this afternoon.

“We’ve worked on defence in training this week, so that everyone knows how to switch on the screen and how to match up with people," he said. “We have this attitude of I’ll take it easy on defence, I’m going to take this guy because he isn’t very good, so that was be the big focus this week.”

Defensive lapses was the main reason the New College based side were unable to maintain their perfect record as they found themselves 30 points behind after the opening two quarters of the game. Colclough also believes Plymouth, who are struggling in the National League South West Division Four, is the perfect chance for his side to get back on track. If his side are to get their fifth win of the season Swindon will have to do it without player-coach Colclough as he is away on holiday.

“I think Plymouth is an ideal game for us to get back to winning ways, but I am a bit worried personally because I am missing our next match.

I normally play as a guard but I’m more concerned about the coaching, because after a loss I wonder if the guys will revert to doing their own thing.”

The Shock coach also wants to see some more commitment from his players after usually taking a team of eight to away games, 13 turned up for their home clash with RCT Gladiators.

“One of the other problems we had last week was suddenly everybody showed up, normally we only have eight for a game but we had 13 come the weekend." he said. “It is hard for me to tell people that they’ll have to sit a game out, we need the players to turn up to every game.

“It’s easier for players to come play for the home games because it doesn’t take up the whole Saturday, but if we had a few more travel with us it would be a big help for us too.”
