Swindon men’s first team enjoyed a 3-1 friendly victory over Witney ahead of returning to Conference North action this weekend.

The visitors started brightly, showing a level of desire that Swindon were lacking early on, with the Witney forward line stretching the hosts' defence.

Midway through the first half, the Oxfordshire side took the lead when a ball from deep inside the Witney half evaded the Swindon defence, allowing them to ghost in and slip ball beyond Alan Gough.

The goal sparked the home side into action and they started to move the ball better.

A number of short corners were won but Swindon were unable to turn the pressure into goals.

The hosts got back on level terms on the stroke of half-time when Henry Cheney tucked away a penalty flick, after Jordan Mckenzie was bundled to the ground as he broke into the Witney area.

Swindon dominated the second half, showing patience with the ball, particularly across the back, while distributing the ball effectively resulted in a number of excellent chances.

The hosts took control of the match thanks to two goals from Ted Slater.

Swindon will now turn their attentions to pushing for promotion from Conference North with a trip to league leaders Firebrands A on Saturday.

They then welcome Welsh side Penarth to Isambard School the following weekend in what will be another huge test of their character.
