SWINDON Robins were narrowly beaten 91-85 when they hosted local rivals Horspath Hammers in their second home meeting of the season.
The teams looked fairly even on paper but a late withdrawal for the Robins tilted the tie in the visitors’ favour.
The meeting started with multiple drawn heats until Swindon did find the edge to lead by a point at half-time.
However, the second half proved too steep a challenge as the Hammers, led by the very impressive Zac Payne, pulled clear to claim victory.
For Swindon, Shaun Rudman returned from a nasty knee injury and made some superb starts, while there was also a strong return to form by James Bailey and Matty Rayson.
Former Swindon rider Alice Neighbour showed she is more than capable holding her own in the top league with a strong showing for Horspath.
Swindon would like to thank Danny Harper for refereeing.
A club spokesperson said: “Despite having ties to both clubs, he kept the meeting running smooth and precisely whilst remaining impartial.”
