WOOTTON Bassett notched up their fifth win in a row in Wilts & NE Somerset Division 1, defeating Bath Buccs 6-2 at the Lime Kiln.

Bassett never looked like losing in this encounter. The young partnership of Kyle Barnes and Matt Jakubiec up front was far too much for the visitors to handle.

Within five minutes Bassett found themselves a goal up as Barnes picked up a cross from Dan Stanley and fired it into the roof of the net.

Two minutes later they were on the attack again and won a penalty corner. A well-worked move set up Grant Kirkup to send Bassett two goals clear.

As in previous weeks Bassett then took their foot off the accelerator and sat back on their lead.

Buccs exploited Bassett's complacency and pulled the score back to 2-1 through a quickly taken short corner.

As the half-time break approached, the home side lifted their game and sent through Barnes to score his second of the match.

Bassett were more organised in the second half and it was not long before Kirkup and Dan Jeffery combined to set up man of the match Stanley for a tap-in at the far post.

Buccs pulled a second goal back through a short corner, but the home side were now controlling the game and secured the win with another two goals.

Stanley scored his second of the game when he picked up a rebound and slammed the ball into the goal.

Jakubiec then rounded off the 6-2 win with a brilliant individual goal, rounding the keeper to slot the ball home.

The win was the result of good performances throughout the team, particularly some strong running and passing from the back pairing of Sam Snell and Stu Bell.

This was especially encouraging for Bassett as they face a trip to the league leaders, West Wilts, on Saturday.
