WOOTTON Bassett Ladies had mixed fortunes at the weekend, with a defeat and two victories.

The 1sts faced stiff opposition and lost 2-1 at home against Plymouth Marjons, who started strongly with swift, accurate passes, and scored in the 20th minute.

Bassett strove for greater possession, and were rewarded when Gemma Richards equalised just before half-time.

In the second half, the visitors continued to press the Bassett defence, which held out until 10 minutes before the end, when Plymouth scored again.

Players of the match were Emma Langdon and goalkeeper Gemma Vinton, whose superb saves thwarted Plymouth's promising attacks.

On Saturday, Bassett will play Chippenham 1st away, and on Sunday they have a Cup game against Chichester, at home.

BASSETT 2nd picked up three valuable points when they defeated Bretforton, at Evesham, 1-0.

In a keenly-contested game, Sue Davies scored the only goal in the first half, and Bassett maintained their lead impressively to move nearer to the top of the table.

On Saturday, they play Hereford 2nd at home, 11am.

BASSETT 3rd were tested in the first half of their home game against Gloucester 4th, just below them in the league.

Gloucester attacked strongly and were 2-1 up at half-time, with Abby Iles having scored for Bassett.

The home side's excellent teamwork in the second half yielded goals from Jenny Jones and Iles, to ensure a well-earned 3-2 victory which maintained Bassett's second place in the league. Player of the match was Teagan Buchanan.

On Saturday, Bassett will play Stroud 2nd away.
