SWINDON Ladies 1st travelled to Exeter, and were unlucky not to come away with at least a point.

Throughout the game Swindon held the majority of possession, and attacked well, only failing with the final pass or shot.

Exeter managed to win a number of dubious short corners, one of which somehow manage to find its way under Swindon keeper, Michelle Stoddard's feet.

This only led to Swindon increasing the tempo, but they still could not get themselves on the score sheet.

Frustration kicked in and Linda Brouwers received a green card for a mistimed challenge, quickly followed by Victoria Humphries receiving a yellow for the same offence.

Becky Clark did a good job stepping into cover, and Swindon held the score at 1-0 going into half- time.

Swindon were more disciplined in the second half, and moved the ball round nicely, creating chances, especially on the left starting with Claire Sage.

With 10 minutes to go and still a goal down, Swindon changed formation to increase the pressure, but Exeter defended well.

Swindon face Cheltenham at home on Saturday at 11am.

CIRENCESTER Ladies 2nd maintained their top of the league position following a conclusive victory over Painswick on Saturday.

Ciren were again on form. As last week, it was fine passing play that brought the rewards, in the form of four goals. The game was fast and furious and Ciren always looked as if they wanted to win.

Matilda Granville played a determined game and deserved to open the scoring.

Their second goal came from a well-worked short corner, Manda Bloomer scoring from her spot on the left post.

Sarah Ryan, picking up a well-timed pass from Sarah Harvey, hammered the third home, and Charmaine Davies was well positioned to slip in goal number four between the posts.

Although Ciren had most of the play the visitors never stopped counter-attacking. Most attacks were broken down but the few that got through were dealt with confidently by Caroline McKemey who is having an excellent season whether as goalkeeper or centre forward.
